I don't have GPON myself but I know someone who does (and uses Linux). I'll have him poke at it and let you know how it goes with him.

If you could borrow someone's PPPoE router and connect, you'd be able to see the verbose messages and see what's missing on your end.

I'll also ask the guys at QNet to see if there's a specific requirement.

Thanks Majed, i'm only seeking people in kuwait who might got lucky with GPON connection. trust me clearly, i have used all possible *cliche* solutions available on the net.

Did you managed to connect with the same setup?

You configure the PPPoE Client to pass the proper arguments to pppd which communicates with the remote server.

Install a package called PPPoE Roaring Penguin. That should do all the voodoo
 for you.

Authentication passes normally as PAP, even the MTU is the same as Win7 at 1492. i tried both Sync and Async PPPD modes, still no luck. using pppd 2.4.3 by the way.

who should handles the authentication? pptp client or pppd? i just started to fiddle with this for the last few hours, skimmed a lot of HowTOs and forums, this seems to be a unique case.

Check the authentication modules used in Windows (pap, chap, mppe,
 ...etc.)
Make sure you've configured those in Linux as well in /etc/ppp/

Salam everyone,

Anyone managed to hook a Linux box directly to a GPON (new fiber optic in Kuwait) through LAN card using PPPoE?

I'm using Fasttelco and it connects directly to windows 7 with no problem, with Linux i get a lot of packets loss and PPPD connection wont last for more than 20 seconds.
