The Hero is released already. You can order it from expansys.com (or
www.expansys.ae), they have a waiting list but its available "sim free".

The reason its limited to internal memory is to prevent piracy, since apps
can easily be ported (that's one theory).

However, you can "jailbreak" the device and then install apps on the memory
card.
