Majed,
Look at the big picture and you will know why.
MySQL is considered a big competitor and a threat to Oracle, and Oracle
will try to move customers from MySQL to their Oracle DB, since its a
higher price product.
What would make Oracle to continue developing an open source database
MySQL while it is competing with their Key product Oracle DB?
Oracle is worse than Sun when it comes to open source.
I've been looking for alternatives for awhile and I'm aware of the
available forks for MySQL, they're fragmented and some of them are on
early stages of development "alpha".
I'm keeping an eye on Drizzle which is an interesting fork of MySQL, its
not stable yet, still on development stages. Works well for scalable web
apps.
PostgreSQL is the only reliable option for now.
