[General] Internet Slowdown

For those interested in knowing where the submarine fiber cables are, the
Wikipedia article has a world map:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine_communications_cable
I couldn't however find the diameter of these cables, but from the materials
used (shown in the picture below the map), it's pretty darn tough!!! So I
imagine that the ship that dropped the anchor was a huge one, not your
typical 9a3eedi fishing boat :p

As the articles supplied by Burhan say, there were two cables that got
damaged, so I was wondering: Why would they put two MASTER cables next to
each other?! At least spread them half a kilometer apart! I sure hope they
think of this while repairing the cables, since they can add more length to
it now...

As for satellite, back in highschool the delay was 3 seconds per packet!
Now, from what I see, it's 500-750ms (milliseconds). (Hard luck online
gamers!!)

Oh yeah, one thing Burhan forgot to mention, is that ISPs have prioritized
their customers, and home users can collect scrape bandwidth from the bottom
of the bandwidth pool (7akooka!)

So, for now, I'm shifting my Internet activities to where businesses &
people are asleep...

Burhan, thanks a lot for the detailed information.
