Whether contracted or not, they're not good enough; the same applies
to Al-Babtain's Linux admins. I'm not bashing, just telling you from
the experience of those who have tried both.
Tivoli is the management application for the storage. We have 2 IBM
SANs here at work, managed by Tivoli Storage Manager, and it's been
doing a good work. Yesterday, it detected that one of the disks is
reporting errors, but hasn't failed yet, and it was up to me, to
either wait for it to fail by itself, or I could fail it manually and
replace it.
After failing the drive, the degraded array used the hot-spare disk
and started reconstructing the data, even though I had put the
replacement disk for the dead one. After reconstruction was done, it
copied the data from the hot-spare to the replacement!
Of course, this was the job of the controller, but the storage manager
provided A LOT of info and guided steps on what to do & how.
