[General] KOC deploys Sun Linux cluster

As far as I know, Al-Diar doesn't have the people to administrate
Linux, and only sell the boxes... also, the oil sector has its own
Linux-experienced admins, which is why it went for the solution.
I haven't seen any Linux cluster, but I heard that QualityNet has
moved to one, and I know that Dar Al-Shifa Hospital, runs its software
(some of it is even open-source CRM) on Linux & IBM AIX Unix.
KMEFIC (http://www.kmefic.com.kw/) used to use AIX, but because of the
*high* fees for support (I didn't see the figures as high, considering
the amount of hardware used), they're moving to Sun Unix boxes now...
Their setup may not work on a Linux-cluster, as they run a
multi-national cluster, and their clusters on sophisticated enterprise
technologies from IBM (HACMP).
As far as I know, their portal is Java based, so they might be able to
run the web-portal on Linux boxes, to reduce the over-all cost. (Run
it with tomcat, or WebSphere, if they need high levels of
administration & customization).
The majority of the companies in Kuwait go for Windows, because of the
abundance of people who call themselves Windows Administrators (ask
them to optimize the performance of a server, and they'll just pop a
few fuses in their heads). If there was a company that offers on-site
or off-site Linux Administration services, professionally, not just
people with lame certificates, I believe such a company would have a
lot of opportunities.
Just my 5 fils...
