Few notes on Squid:
- Give it minimum disk space (50-100mb is ideal) or rule of the thumb, set disk usage for squid as your (system shared memory) X 2.
- If you can have a memory temp files system (like DOS RAMDRIVE) which turns RAM into a hard drive, it will dramatically speed your browsing.
- Compile it with dmalloc so memory usage can be tamed, i noticed this with glibc 2.3 and onwards, this might be obsolete with v3.0
- I recommend using version 3 which very stable now.
- Turn off logs if you can.
