Salamu Alaykom...
Thanks for pointing this out...
As I understood. MySQL AB offers GPL for those who want to develop GPL based
applications and a commercial license for those who want to develop a
commercial based application under MySQL.
But GPL allows GPL based software to communicate with commercial license
applications but not to be combined together in one package!
There is a gray area here !! in case you wanna use MySQL under GPL and still
use commercial based application to communicate with it.... It will violate
the MySQL licensing page "http://www.mysql.com/company/legal/licensing" ..
but not the GPL !!!!
On the other hand, Postgre uses BSD licensing.... (Free but more flexible
with commercial usage)
Anyway, apart from the licensing issues, I think MySQL is widely used amount
Arabs and widely used with php applications and offer a study guide and a
certification (For those who are interested) and SQL language is basically
the same for all DBMS.
For those who are interested, lets vote for whether to use Postgre instead
of MySQL in the study plan OR continue with MySQL study plan and then have a
topic "Migrating from MySQL to Postgre".
MySQL Licensing:

Postgre Licensing:
